Personal Pottery Lessons
One-to-One and Small group
The Clay Cabin
Step away from the rush of everyday life and join me in my cosy garden studio near Sevenoaks in Kent for a pottery experience that is as relaxing as it is creative. The Clay Cabin is a small, peaceful space designed for slowing down, switching off and enjoying the simple pleasure of working with clay.
Whether you’d like to try throwing on the wheel or explore hand building, my sessions are welcoming to complete beginners as well as those with some experience who want to develop their skills. I have two wheels, so you can come for a private one-to-one lesson or bring a friend and share the experience together.
My approach to teaching is relaxed, friendly and very hands-on. I focus on helping you enjoy the process of working with clay while guiding you through each step, so that you leave not only with something you’ve made but with the confidence to keep exploring the craft.
I offer a range of different sessions listed below, and in every lesson I adapt my teaching to suit the pace, interests and learning style of each student. With this kind of focused, personal guidance, people are often surprised at how quickly they progress — and many find themselves completely hooked on pottery before they know it, just as I did.
All lessons include the use of equipment, clay and glazes. A small charge is made for firing larger pieces.

Lessons
Our pottery lessons are suitable for everyone, from complete beginners to those looking to develop existing skills.
Some students come to try the wheel for the first time or focus on throwing techniques such as centering, opening, pulling walls and shaping forms, while others are drawn to handbuilding, exploring ways of shaping, joining and texturing clay by hand to create more expressive pieces.
We can explore both wheel throwing and handbuilding during a session, and also introduce decorative and glazing techniques once you have pieces ready to finish. You don’t need to specify a technique when booking — these are simply different ways of working with clay, and we can focus on whichever interests you most or combine them in a single lesson.
Lessons are one-to-one or two-to-one in a calm, peaceful studio, with dedicated guidance to help you progress at your own pace.

Begin
When you’re new to clay or have only spent a little time on the wheel. We’ll go step by step so you feel comfortable and enjoy the experience.

Improve
If you’ve thrown before and want to build confidence or tackle a specific challenge. I’ll guide and support you without taking over your work.

Refine
If you’re already comfortable on the wheel and want to refine your work, from larger forms to consistent pieces and finer finishes.
Learn to Throw
Whether you’re trying the wheel for the first time or looking to refine particular aspects of your throwing, these personal lessons give you the space to develop your skills with guidance at each stage of the process.
We can work on core wheel techniques such as centering, opening, pulling walls and shaping forms, as well as improving consistency or working with larger amounts of clay as your confidence grows.
The categories below give you an idea of what you might focus on depending on your level of experience.
Learn to Hand Build
Handbuilding is wonderfully versatile — it allows you to create unique, personal pieces without relying on the wheel, and encourages creativity, experimentation, and mindful focus.
It’s a deeply tactile and satisfying process, letting you connect with the clay as you shape, texture, and join pieces together. Many students find it surprisingly addictive, and the skills you develop open up endless possibilities for your own projects.

Begin
If you’re new to clay or trying handbuilding for the first time. We'll explore simple techniques like pinch pots, coiling and slab building so you can feel comfortable and enjoy the process.

Improve
If you’re confident with the basics and want to develop your skills through more considered forms, surface texture, and slightly more complex projects.

Refine
For experienced handbuilders ready to focus on precision, structure, and finish — whether that’s larger work, more intentional forms, or combining handbuilt and wheel‑thrown elements.
Taster Sessions
These relaxed, three-hour events give you the chance to try both wheel throwing and handbuilding, so you can experience the difference between the two techniques in a fun, hands-on way. Sessions are small, with a maximum of six people, ensuring plenty of guidance and attention.
I offer these on an occasional basis. Please refer to the events page for upcoming sessions.

About Me
I fell in love with clay when my husband booked a taster session for us to try on a mini-moon in Cornwall. I was so captivated that by the time we were driving home along the dreaded A303, I’d already ordered a wheel and some equipment!
Since then, I’ve spent years learning and practicing — taking classes part-time, reading extensively, and especially honing my skills on the wheel. I’ve also gained teaching experience at a professional studio where I had been taking lessons for years, running Saturday morning taster and beginner classes and guiding individuals through one-to-one sessions. Now, in my cosy garden cabin, I offer regular classes where I share this passion with students of all levels.
Having worked for many years in fast-paced corporate environments, often spending hours in front of a screen, I’ve found pottery provides the headspace and mental wellbeing I need. The tactile, mindful process of working with clay is calming and creative, and it’s a joy to help students discover the same sense of focus and satisfaction as they explore this rewarding craft.

Gallery
I began my pottery journey as a thrower, focusing on developing my wheel skills, but I’ve always enjoyed mixing this with hand building—especially in projects that combine the two. Over the past year, I’ve started exploring glazing more intentionally, attending classes and experimenting with making my own glazes. This gallery showcases pieces from across that journey
